RANCHO SANTA FE CALIFORNIAA 6,000 square foot home expanded to 11,000 to incorporate the client’s needs and wishes. John Robert Wiltgen Design worked closely with a local architect to maintain the structures’ clean contemporary exterior while completely reconfiguring the interior space. Secluded plush gardens and mountain views became part of the home with the addition of enormous glass windows. Intricate flooring comprised of natural colors and materials also brought the outdoors in achieving international recognition for excellence in design. EntryA new architectural feature, the voluminous colonnade, transformed this 1960's split level home into a palatial estate. A glass window wall was installed opposite the entry framing the majestic landscape and Botero sculpture. Living RoomA grand 3,500 square foot space resulted when the living room, dining room and entry were combined and enlarged. Over sized upholstered pieces were combined with Regency, Empire, and Biedermeier furnishings, reflecting the owner's personal style. Dining RoomClerestory windows were installed to illuminate the central core of the home. The shape of this dining room was determined by a majestic palm tree, which became an integral part of the elegant setting. Master BathThe 1,600 square foot master bath/spa includes a private garden, exercise room, sauna, steam shower and therapeutic whirlpool tub. The elaborate floor features hand made ceramic tiles in assorted leaf shapes, inset and surrounded with marble. This interior won First Place in a Spectrum International Design Competition. Guest HouseNatural materials, such as polished concrete, iron, leather, sandblasted glass and wood are integrated into the separate 1,500 square foot guesthouse. Clerestory windows, also used in the main house, bring natural light and greenery indoors. |
