MILLENNIUM PARK PENTHOUSE

This project began when the client purchased 4000 square feet of raw space, towering 56 stories above Chicago’s Millennium Park. The location and views sold them on the building, however they were not thrilled with the proposed layout. The developer referred John Robert Wiltgen Design to create the construction documents, specifications and a revised layout thoughtfully reflecting the client’s needs. The plan included a spacious family room and abundant storage throughout, accommodating a move from a large suburban home. Furniture and furnishings were carefully selected establishing the foundation for a serious art collection, which was researched and developed by JRWD.

Fireplace w/Monet

Exemplifying the integration of art, architecture and design, 200-year old Swedish Neoclassic gilt wood armchairs frame the antique Adam marble fireplace and spectacular Claude Monet seascape of the Normandy coast.

Living Room – Corner Detail

A Martin Blank glass sculpture brings vitality to the understated, rich details throughout this glamorous living room with breathtaking skyline views.

Dining Room/Living Room – Overview

The dining room was gracefully combined with the living room to provide space for a full sized family room. Numerous architectural changes facilitated the symmetrical installation of motorized silk draperies. Behind the valence are roller shades to block out UV light.

Dining Room w/ Laurie Hogin Painting

Period Chippendale chairs with cut velvet upholstery repeat the classic color palette of Laurie Hogin’s fanciful allegorical painting, rendered in the Dutch Master’s style with a delicate technique and complex detail.

Dining Room Buffet w/Mirror

An eclectic combination of antiques is right at home in this modern high-rise building. The architectural background, featuring Venetian plastered walls, faux marble baseboards and crown moldings, and heated marble floors allow for this transition.

Family Room

A Piero Fornasetti screen, painted on both sides, repeats the architectural theme of the built-in Hickory wall unit, with fireplace and bar. The clean, modern coffee table comprised of an intricate cow bone mosaic, embraces old world craftsmanship.

Powder Room

An Art Deco console was used as the base for the carved granite vessel bowl. Glimmering Lalique crystal wall sconces softly illuminate the silver leaf ceiling and limestone mirror frames.

Kitchen

Coming from a large home, the client wanted a kitchen with similar storage capabilities and the capacity to support serious entertaining. JRWD re-engineered the space to provide sufficient storage and easy access to counter tops and appliances.

Master Bedroom – Bed & Tapestry

The discovery of the 200-year old Flemish tapestry occurred after all other fabrics had been selected, yet looks custom made for this master bedroom.

Master Bedroom – Cabinet Detail

After exhausting all resources looking for the right combination of display and storage, JRWD fashioned an original. The wood finish was glazed with layers of light colors to downplay the piece’s size, then scraped and distressed to appear old.

Her Bath – Tub

An all over pattern was selected for the mosaic marble floor, accommodating the irregular shape of the room. Floor to ceiling Crème Marfil marble and a classic scene painting create a serene backdrop for the dramatic city view.

Her Bath – Cabinet Detail

JRWD created this cabinet for her bath, to look like it was found in an old French salon. It’s paired with regal French wall sconces from the 1890’s.
