HIP URBAN COTTAGEA young Chicago developer had the vision to hire John Robert Wiltgen Design to bring his turn of the century cottage, located in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood, into the 21st century. He was a bachelor when he bought it and before the project was complete, he married and it became the couple's home. This was the first of three private residences completed by JRWD for this repeat client. Dining RoomThe dining room is a sleek and sophisticated JRWD original, from the boat shaped table to the area rug that looks like a contemporary painting. Black patent leather chairs with chrome nail head accents and silver leaf legs provide high style and comfort. Powder RoomJRWD converted the small powder room into an unexpected fun filled gallery by creating a floor to ceiling collage using art posters. KitchenSix steps down from the living room, the open kitchen is dramatic and inviting. Comfortable bar stools and lively art convert the kitchen into a furnished room with plenty of space for entertaining. Living RoomAn 8 x 12-foot contemporary painting (made up of four 4 x 6-foot canvasses) marked the beginning of the couple's contemporary art collection. Dramatic ceiling heights and glass block create a spacious, loft like feeling. Family RoomNatural cherry cabinetry extends from the kitchen and wraps around the family room, concealing the entertainment equipment. Fun, stylish furniture makes this room hip. Master Bathroom-Floor DetailInspired by the lack of a linen closet in the master bath, stainless steel cables and glass shelves were installed. The result is an airy, contemporary space for towels and accessories. |
