PHOTOGRAPHER’S PENTHOUSE

The client had strong ideas and he empowered John Robert Wiltgen Design to fulfill his intentions. Wiltgen often accompanied his client shopping for the right space, negotiating along with his attorney for the rights to complete the project as his client envisioned. JRWD created an architectural plan enhanced with clean and simple furnishings to showcase the client’s photography. Engaged in all decisions, the client “camped out” in the raw space to visualize where the walls might go to accurately realize his vision for this home.

Living Room Full View

John Robert Wiltgen believes that in a minimalist project, furniture like architecture must be consistent. This was the philosophy behind using the identical sofa frame and fabric throughout, configuring the seating differently while maintaining the emphasis on the art.

Living Room w/Owen’s Art

Understated Ultra suede was the perfect fabric for this client who wanted a sophisticated look that’s comfortable and maintenance free.

Den w/Ottoman & Sears Tower

The stainless steel corners of the Kabuki chairs illustrate the subtle attention to detail that distinguishes the room, without detracting from the extraordinary art and skyline views.

Dining Room

This dining room was formerly an outdoor terrace. John Robert Wiltgen helped negotiate permission from the developer to enclose the space with retractable glass, converting his client’s wish for an al fresco dining room into a reality.

Terrace

A terrace is a luxury in vertical living and few outdoor spaces such as this are available. Scale, a World class view and vibrant gardens make this terrace exceptional.

Kitchen

JRWD controlled the location of everything in this residence. Placing the kitchen adjacent to one of the terraces streamlined cooking preparation and entertaining convenience.

Master Bedroom

The building’s eastern exposure offered the least attractive views, so the decision was made to focus the perspective from the bed to southern views. The client’s dramatic photography infuses his personal style here, in the Master bedroom and throughout the home.

Master Bathroom

The master bath’s 1700-year old stone mural from Turkey was the only thing this client brought with him from his previous residence.

Hall

Porcelain tile was used throughout for it’s resilient qualities and inconspicuous appeal. The same flooring was installed in the elevator vestibule, visually expanding the appearance of the residence.
